Week 19 HAWAII

21/9/22 - 27/9/22

Ve středu ráno byl plán jasný:

Zrušit pojištění auta

Zajít na poštu

Vzít Charlinku do bazénu

Zabalit kufry

Koupit sváču na cestu

Zajít si na oběd 

a taxíkem dojet na letiště.

Let na Havajský ostrov Maui byl z Vancouveru 6 hodin. 

Než jsme na místě vyzvedli auto z půjčovny a našli hotel, byla už kanadského času skoro 1 v noci. Navíc jsme měli trochu problém najít správný hotel, a tak jsme šli spát až ve 3 ráno!

Místního času ale byla teprve půlnoc, Havaj je o tři hodiny za Kanadou, ale od Austrálie je pozadu o 21 hodin!!! To bude zmatek pro tělo až se vrátíme do Austrálie.

Na Maui jsme měli 2 dny a tři noci.

Auto jsem zarezervovala ještě v Kanadě. Na ty tři dny jsem zvolila nejlevnější možnost - náhodný výběr.

Čekala jsem, že nám přidělí nějakou šunku. Když tam ale Benji dorazil, dali mu NA VÝBĚR! Mohl si vybrat od větších aut, SUVček, dodávek až po ty nejmenší. 

Vybral si po klukovsku (viz foto). 

První den jsme objeli celý ostrov. Hodně jsme zastavovali, pokaždé, když byl krásný výhled nebo někdo u cesty prodával místní ovoce nebo kokosy. 

Druhý den jsme objeli místní pláže a jen jsme si tak byli. Voda byla krásně teplá a kolem plavaly želvy.

Za ty dva dny jsme toho stihli dost, ale na jednu aktivitu nám čas nevyšel - na surfování. Trochu nás to mrzelo, voda byla plná surfařů a všichni si užívali dlouhé jízdy. Budeme se, holt, muset vrátit!

Hawaii nás mile překvapila. Čekali jsme předraženou past na turisty, ale ceny byly nakonec srovnatelné s Austrálií.

Ubytování bylo sice dražší, ale myslím, že kdybychom hotel rezervovali s předstihem a na déle než tři dny, cena by byla přijatelnější.

Když jsem se bavila na pláži s místními, dozvěděla jsem se, že už bylo po turistické sezóně. Nám se zdálo, že bylo všude turistů hodně. Na populárních plážích a vodopádech se prakticky nedalo zaparkovat.

Pokud se na Havaj vrátíme, určitě zase mimo sezónu. Počasí bylo perfektní a voda měla 27 stupňů! Prostě Havaj!

Po 12 hodinách ve vzduchu nás na letišti v Sydney vyzvedl děda David. Charlinka nám usla na poslední 3 hodiny letu. Zaspala tak přistání, přechod přes letiště, přesun do auta, 2 hodiny cesty do Newcastlu i přesun do hotelu. Jet lag ji sice probudil už ve 3 ráno (6 ráno havajskeho času), ale podařilo se mi ji přesvědčit, že jeste budeme chvíli spát.

Po ranní návštěvě příbuzných jsme se vydali na poslední úsek tohohle dlouhého přesunu - cestu do Coffs.

Byla jsem docela ráda, že jsme zase na chvíli doma. Charlie se v letadle zase rozjel kašel, byla tam docela zima. Trochu ji to cestování zmáhá poslední dobou. Bude fajn si na 10 dní odpočinout a nabrat síly na naši poslední etapu - cestu domů.

On Wednesday morning, the plan was clear:

Cancel car insurance

Go to the post office

Take Charle to the pool

Pack our bags

Buy a snack for the trip

Have lunch

and take a taxi to the airport.

The flight to the Hawaiian island of Maui was 6 hours from Vancouver.

By the time we picked up the rental car and found the hotel, it was almost 1 am Canadian time. In addition, we had a bit of a problem finding the right hotel, so we didn't go to sleep until 3 in the morning!

But it was only midnight local time, Hawaii is three hours behind Canada, but 21 hours behind Australia!!! This will wreak havoc on the body when we return to Australia.

We had 2 days and 3 nights in Maui.

I reserved a hire car for that period whilst still in Canada. For those three days, I chose the cheapest option - random selection.

I expected them to assign us some bomb. But when Benji got there, they gave him a CHOICE! He could choose from larger cars, SUVs, vans all the way to the smallest cars.

He chose boy - style (see photo).

The first day we did a road trip around the whole island. We stopped a lot, every time there was a beautiful view or someone was selling local fruit or coconuts on the side of the road.

The next day we went around the local beaches and just had fun. The water was beautifully warm and turtles swam around.

We got a lot done in those two days, but we didn't have time for one activity - surfing. We were a bit sad about it, the water was full of surfers and everyone was enjoying long rides. We're going to have to come back!

Hawaii pleasantly surprised us. We were expecting an overpriced tourist trap, but the prices ended up being comparable to Australia.

The accommodation was more expensive, but I think that if we had booked the hotel in advance and for more than three days, the price would have been more acceptable.

While chatting on the beach with the locals, I learned that it was already past the tourist season. It seemed to us that there were a lot of tourists everywhere. It was practically impossible to find a park on the popular beaches and waterfalls.

If we go back to Hawaii, it will definitely be in the off season. The weather was perfect and the water was 27 degrees! Simply Hawaii!

After 12 hours in the air, Grandpa David picked us up at Sydney Airport. Charlie fell asleep for the last 3 hours of our flight. She slept through the landing, crossing the airport, transfer to the car, the 2-hour journey to Newcastle and the transfer to the hotel. Although jet lag woke her up at 3 am (6 am Hawaii time), I managed to convince her that we would sleep for a bit longer.

After visiting relatives in the morning, we set off on the last leg of this long trip - the journey to Coffs.

I was quite happy to be home again for a while. Charlie started coughing again on the plane, the aircon was quite cold. She's been struggling a bit with traveling lately. It will be nice to rest for 10 days and gain strength for our last stage - the journey home.
