Week 3 GREGORY DOWNS
1/6/22 - 7/6/22

Before leaving, Benji downloaded the WikiCamps app that we use to find campsites. There are both caravan parks and backcountry campsites, and even plenty of places where you can camp for free.
This is how we found a place not far from the town of Winton called Pinnacle rocks formation. Just 10 minutes from the highway, rocky mounds appeared from nowhere in the middle of a dry, inhospitable landscape. At the foot of one of them there was even a mini pool for rinsing off dirty tourists! In addition, it was quite easy to climb those rocks and look around the landscape, or watch the sunset (with a glass of wine in hand, of course). Paradise on Earth!!!
We stayed there for 2 nights. We were all alone there and it was nice to slow down again for a while.
On the morning of the last day, the Higgins family arrived. Two little girls Matilda (2) and Mackenzie (4) immediately became friends with Charlie. It made it even harder to say goodbye to this great place. But it was time to go, we ran out of food, water and clean undies. Fortunately, they had a similar plan to us, so we will definitely meet them again.
We had to go to a "retirement home" in Cloncury. When we got there, a message on a piece of paper was already waiting for us at the reception: "We have your stuffed rabbit, let us know what your plan is. Sheridan, Marc, Mackenzie & Matilda”.
The plan was clear. Gregory Downs. Next, we wanted to continue to Lawn Hill NP, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
We did a quick load of laundry (because farting grandpas) and did some not-so-big but overpriced food shopping and an even more expensive restock of beers.
Gregory downs was a beautiful river in the middle of nowhere. The village consisted of one pub, one shop and one garbage container. By the river there were about 20 caravans and us with our van.
So far, we are mostly the only ones who drive this type of house on wheels. Most of the Australians are equipped with 4WD supercars, behind which they tow no less expensive caravans, trailers or other similar folding houses, which then takes them ages to set up. It takes us 5 minutes to "unfold", but then again, we're not 4WD, so we can't get everywhere.
By the river at Gregory downs we parked for 7 nights. Our days just blended into each other and we didn't really do much at all, which was great.
We swam a lot in the river, tried to catch fish that weren't there and lobsters that were there but were faster than us. We baked bread, cooked on the fire, and told stories by the fire every night and ate roasted marshmallows.
The Higgins's caught up with us couple days after, so Charlie was playing with the girls from dusk to daws.
And time seemed to stop…
