Week 11 DRIVING INTO WINTER
27/7/22 - 2/8/22
It was Wednesday after lunch and we were doing nothing again. It was hot, Charlie was sleeping and Benji and I were lying in the shade drinking coffee.
A few weeks ago we visited Benji's friend Cameron and his family in Port Hedland. Cam lived with Benji for a long time while Benji was working in Western Australia. We found out that they were planning to go camping on the Ningaloo Coast on the same date we were supposed to be there. They agreed to join us for a few days.
As we drank our coffee, I remembered them. I ask Ben if he thinks they will come. He said that probably not.
At that moment, their car appeared from behind the corner. The timing was brilliant.
Cam, his wife Yarna and their two children joined us for three days. It was a nice refreshment, we were already getting a little bored there.
Benji got a partner for diving, Charlinka was happy to play with kids and I had someone to chat with.
One afternoon we borrowed their paddle board and the three of us went snorkeling on two boards to a coral reef. Benji told me about the giant turtle he came across there. We were lucky, she was there! It was a low tide, so even Charlie could see her beautifully!
On the last day, the boys managed to catch 4 big fish, and so we were still eating fish fillets at the hotel in Exmouth.
We headed to Exmouth on Saturday for two nights. On Sunday we were supposed to go diving with whale sharks!
But the weather only got worse from Friday, so they ended up canceling the trip. It was very disappointing because I was really looking forward to it! But there were very big waves, so nothing could be done.
In addition, Charlinka caught a cold from the children and even had a fever on Saturday night, so in the end I was glad that we didn't go anywhere on Sunday.
So instead of a boat trip we drove around the local beaches and Benji even went surfing.
On Monday, we had to drive nearly 500 km, which is quite a lot by our standards.
Wooramel River Retreat enticed us with hot tubs. If there's anything Charlie loves more than water, it's warm water!
When we arrived at the campsite in the early evening, it was gathering for a crazy storm. Before we had time to settle in, the tree branches were already bending dangerously from side to side in the wind and it started to rain.
Benji proclaimed that we would not sit in the car after all this driving, and began to change Charlie into her swimsuit.
And so it happened that we found ourselves in a thermal pool while Mother Nature raged all around us. We agreed that it was the best place to be in this weather.
